Playing the Many Different Variations of Poker

Over time, poker evolved greatly and from that simple game in which five cards were dealt all at once to each player and in which there was only one betting round, it has lingering itself until it included hundreds of variations. The most popular variant nowadays seems to be Texas holdem, but there are also other poker games that are enjoying a great mass of fans.

- High-low split.

In this type of game the pot is to be split between the biggest hand and the lowest one. So here you not only have to chance the big hands, for a change here you can have some fun and go after the lowest hand possible. A low and would generally be something that has a 3 in it and all other cards are ranked below 8. The ranks of poker are applied here also, so hands have the same meanings. This means that a very low unsited straight that is also broken like this example: 7, 6, 5, 3, 2 will win the low.

- The kill game.

The kill game is a game with limit that has been previously fixed. This applies to any games that have this rule specified and it means that a player that has won once, and the right after that he wins another pot, then the stakes will become double from that moment on.

- The Wild Cards.

In any poker game, the ones that make the rules can add wild cards. This means making Queens wild or wild Sevens.

- The twist round.

Some games include a different round called a twist round. In a twist round a player can add another bet on the table and in exchange of it he can change cards he does not like, by practically buying new ones from the deck.

- The striped deck.

A stripped deck means that poker will not be played with all the cards. Firstly poker was played with only 20 cards. This is still done sometimes, mostly in European countries and mostly when there are 3 or 4 players on the table.

- The community cards

This is the category of poker games that includes Texas holdem and Omaha holdem. The community cards are the cards that can be seen and used by everyone.

No matter the type of the poker game, some basic rules remain the same, as the betting style, the value of hands and their rankings and strategies that can be adapted from one game type to the other.
